Im picking up a bunch of water hyacinth today for my 180. I have sevs geos fronts and flagtails. Is there anything i need to watch out for.
I've never had water plants before even though i did some internet research i'd rather hear from other mfk'ers

all of my tanks are planted, things to think about

light, better lighting, and when you think you have enough light.... add more light
the plant that you have are very nice, if you have a lidded tank the blooms have no place to go but back into the tank, watch when they start to decay....

these do best floating on top of the water.... ??? if you are not going to put Co2 on the tank pick up some plant food. I put plant food in my tank once a month until the summer or hot weather then I back off because we keep the lights off more.

lol, what he said. If you're getting the plants from a source that keeps them outdoors, I would watch for insect larvae. I once found a dragonfly nymph in my 29g.. :irked: Pretty gross.

I rinsed and soaked the plants for an entire day. Added the plants and the are floating on top the roots hang down half way into the tank. With the manzita driftwood i have it looks very natural. I will remove the glass lids and maybe the canopy tomorrow. One question can these plants also be fully submerged

Sounds like a nice setup! :) No, water hyacinth is strictly a floating plant.

I think it is. Nothing close to some of the tanks i've seen on MFK but I will post some pics when everything clears up.
