In a 3 cartridge whole house water filter system, which filter will require more frequent replacement, the larger micron size (50 micron) or the smallest (1 micron) ??? I'm planning on using a 3 cartridge system to supply water to approx 60 aquariums (total usage estimated to be 400-500 gallons weekly) and would like to filter the water down as far as possible while maintaining a flow rate no lower than 4-5 gallons per minute. Can this flow rate be attained when using a 1 micron filter at approx 50-60 psi ???

Agree, the 1 micron will be the most work.
Something that has that small a sieve will restrict your flow.
You do plan on the filter cartridges going from largest sieve to smallest, right?

I have this setup on my house, The 1st filter is a 30 micron and requires the most service. In my application this is because the well water produces a fine sand that seems to be uniform in size and caught by the 30m.
Given that at 500 gallons a week you only need 3 gallons an hour to pass thru the filter your service should be minimal, unless you water is unusually laden with particulate matter. I played with the cartridges until I found the micron size that best suited my conditions.

IF you step the filtration you will be better off. Larger to smaller. Extend service intervals of the tighter filters
