What do you have to do to be able to put that peice of wood into your tank. Cany i take like any peice out of the woods and eventually put it in a tank? Do you have to boil it like you do with driftwood to stop it from leeching tanis. I figured if you just put a regular tree branch (that wasn't harmfuly to fish or anything) it would start to decay right?

Weathered down wood is less desirable than wood thats been soaking in a stream for years but it should work. You want a hardwood branch thats up in the tree still and has been dead for decades.Should look gray,be completely without bark when you find it and dry on the inside when you break it off or cut it.
