I set up a 55 with no fish with driftwood from a lake that has been in a dry bucket for 2 months. I didn't rinse the wood. This tank is for missouri and louisiana longear sunfish fry for growing out.

#1. I noticed a insect sitting on top of a piece of driftwood that was submerged. Bizzare looking thing, head like a catepillar but slightly large jaws. It had a boy like a catepillar also, but had larger appendages(like the hairs of a catepillar, but fewer)like the end of a rose thorn that stuck out all over it's body(1 mm or shorter) at the end of it's behind 2 longer ones. My camera won't show the video of it.

#2. Thin white worms with a bulb shapped head, free swimming and crawling on the glass. Maybe half an inch long.

#3. Some odd looking thing that looks like it has debris stuck on part of it and it moves like an inch worm. At first all I would see it do was move the debris up and down for weeks. Then it finally moved. This is going to sound crazier but With the debris on it, it looks like a worm like snail. The debris is on the tail end and the thin white worm stretches out like a snail would moving over ground. Here is the :screwy: moment, when it finally moves, it moves like an inch worm.

I would like to know what all his bizzare stuff is. I was debating putting bleach in the water and let it sit for a 24 or 48 hours. I really don't want to take this tank down and start all over, do you think I can just use PRIME to remove the capful of bleach?????

it is best to water down the bleach and completely submerge the wood in a separate container let this soak for about a day then rinse off and let it soak in Clean (unbleached water) you don't want the bleach in you tank so try to leave in clean water for longer

I guess I need to take down the tank and the filter. The #2 worms are plentiful in the tank. Since I have no idea what these things are and they could be parasites waiting for a host, I am not going to risk it.

I am buying the longears from Zimmerman's, so that would be a large loss. I was hoping the bleach could be used with the tank set up and I could simply use the Prime to remove it.

If this is going to be a native tank, it sounds to me like you have a nice food source already in the tank.
