wizzin;667039; said:no offense taken. I actually meant wild caught asian aro. More broadly, wild caught endangered species. If I'm not mistaken, the Nami aros are actually illegal to own since they are Scleropages Formosus and without microchip. Only microchipped or captive bred formosus are legal under Cites. Unles Jakarta isn't a member of CITES and the fish are caught in Jakarta.
dr01d;667054; said:actually only the golden or the red arowanas are chipped in the asia...the greens & yellow - tail are not. so technically almost all the green & yellow - tail aro that are in the hobbies tanks in ASIA are frm an unknown source...either WC or breed illegally....they are chipped only for export..other than that they dont bother....

The locals are aware of the demand & prices have been close to what you would pay for an xback for a semi adult fish. A lot of traders are passing off normal greens as Namis since when in juv. sizes it is nearly impossible to distinguish the difference. Same goes for the Cambodian green. I only know of 1 commercial farm which started a breeding program last year to breed these fishes. I was told that sometime this year there might be some available but the quantity would be very limited.
