So, I've got myself an aluminum cat. only time will tell how big this bad boy will grow, but right now, he's just about 1.75".

My tank has a 36" x 12" footprint. not big, i know. This cat could reach a max. size of anywhere from 4" to 18", depending on species. there is basically no way to i.d. the species right now. and i am unsure if i will be able to get rid of it later on (once its over 12", if it gets that big).

should i keep it, or not? these are seldom seen so im hesitant about getting rid of it.

I'd keep it for a while, sounds like you like it a lot. Don't any of your local stores buy back more exotic fish? Size and rarity could end up getting you much more than you originally paid, if you can find a good shop.

yeah, but it seems like no one buys them from the stores. my lfs's "big fish" tanks are kinda crowded most of the time....

Tough call. Maybe you could keep him until you find someone who's got a bigger tank. There is always the possibility of finding someone using the classified section of MFK. Probably someone close enough you could even drive it to them. Good luck either way.

all i kow is that its in the genus Chrysichthys. impossible to know exactly what species until it gets a few inches bigger. hence me not knowing how big it will get...

i though you were talking about BIG cats...18" isn't realy that big...before i out grows your tank get a bigger one...

I am not in a position to get a bigger tank.
I can either bring it back to the store, OR keep it and either hope that it is one of the smaller Chrysichthys species, and stays under 12", in which case the worst case scenario is that i have to bring it to the lfs....

well i supose you could just wait and see...or if you are realy worried put it in the market place here if they are that rare someone on here will want it...

I think i will wait it out. After all, ive been doing research and it seems very likely that this fish will only get 10"....
Besides, he's fun to watch and i like havig bragging rights and a fish tht few other people have. :D
