Do convicts just lay eggs somewhere and hope a male comes along and fertilizes them? if thats the case then I can deal w that. If that is not the case she spawned w my GT because she laid a a bunch of eggs

Whats the question in that? If a convict cichlid lays eggs she is doing so because a male is going to be right there to fertilize them. She will not waste her energy laying eggs that she knows may not survive. It is very possible that a convict and GT hybridizes, GT do that a lot.

Nonsense. It's quite common for cichlid's to lay egg's without the presense of a spawning partner.

Although chances are she has paired off with that Gt. The other tankmates will make short work of those fry, no big deal.

:iagree:Good answer Marc.

Andrew, ime female cichlids will lay sometimes lay eggs on a regular basis without a male even being in the tank.
