I've heard of stories of asian arowanas be sold for thousands of dollars because I live the the USA we can't buy them. A few questions

1. How available are they at local pet shops

2. How much do they typically cost (range)

3. Is it true they have a micro chip in them

1. How available are they at local pet shops- they are always seen in my LFS, at least here in the Philippines, especially the green and banjar. never goes out of stock.

2. How much do they typically cost (range)- asian aros converted from peso to dollar would cost anywhere based on my LFS $60 to the most expensive i've seen bbxb are like $2500

3. Is it true they have a micro chip in them- those that have certificates definitely have chips in them but some have none cost a little less than those that have chips.

Loads of them here at Chatuchak Market in Bangkok.
Yes the all have chips (most of them anyway.)
In Dollars, 30 for a local green up to 3000 for a grade A import.

I always had the thought that the breeders only released a few out to the market to keep the supply low so they can sell the asian arowana for so much. So in a nutshell the supply really isn't low but finding a good quailty one is going to cost you.
I guess people here in america are just out of luck.

there is no shortage of captive bred asian aros, they are abundant as far as i can see. it's like silver aros in the U.S., that's how common they are here, well, at least banjars and greens.

yup. that pretty much sums it up.
sucks for us. lol

the price is high due to import charges

that said greens and banjar reds are dirt cheap

Yeah, and here in Canada you can get quality Super Reds and RTG's for under $1000. XB's continue to be the exception. The range is quite high on these fish, as it varies by quality. For show quality fish of any variant, you're looking at minimum $2500.

1-In Malaysia, the Asian Aros are hard to run out of stock...no matter it is Green, Yellow Tail, Banjar Red, Red, RTG, High-Back, XB, BBXB and etc.

2-The prices would be vary depended on which type you preferred.
The cheapest is green or yellow tail which might cost around RM120-200 (Ringgit Malaysia). The highest are the XB and BBXB types, around RM2500-3500 for a 2-3 inches baby. For the gold head type XB will even cost more...

3-Not every Asian aro has a micro chip and cert with them, unless you buy them from big and famous Fish Farm / breeder such as Xiang Leng and Quan Hu. If you direct by from a normal breeder or local fish shop, normally they will not provide the micro chip and cert for you.

My past 2 green aros didn't have micro chip, and now my little BBXB also don't have the micro chip and cert as well.
