Hi this is a question for persons who have been in the past or are currently resident in areas that wallago leerii is native.
Just how cold do the rivers actually get? I have many references that vary from 72f down to 67f for the lower end of wallago tolerance but i suspect that in some areas they would be naturally exposed to lower temperatures.
Please help.

Perhaps you know this already but beware that all of the Wallago leerii ID from the Mekong are mis-ID's of what now is called Wallago micropogon. This distinction came about recently and the confusion is deeply rooted and most, I am sure, don't know the difference.

Micropogon: Mekong River drainage between Dau Tieng in southern Vietnam and Luang Prabang in northern Laos; also middle Chao Phraya River drainage in Thailand. Middle Mekong, Upper Mekong, Thailand Waters, Chao Praya, Middle Chao Praya.

Leerii: Peninsular Malaysia and the Greater Sunda Islands (except northeast Borneo, where the closely related W. maculatus occurs). Pacific, Malaysia Waters, Peninsular Malaysia Waters, Pacific, Greater Sunda Island Rivers.

Sorry, I am not quite following. What's leerii? I am guessing you are talking about your fish's ID, right?

Then, what I was trying to say is that you need info from people who have been or are from Peninsular Malaysia and the Greater Sunda Islands (except northeast Borneo)...

... and not from the Mekong River drainage between Dau Tieng in southern Vietnam and Luang Prabang in northern Laos; also middle Chao Phraya River drainage in Thailand; Middle Mekong, Upper Mekong, Thailand Waters, Chao Praya, Middle Chao Praya.

Yes mate, i was saying that the fish i have/am asking about appears to be leerii from what i can establish from online pics (im not going to net it up and start examining fins ect).
I did understand what you were saying about distribution and was saying that as far as i can tell my assertion that my speciemen was leerii still stood.
Do we have any members from the appropriate areas? Im sure in the past ive seen pics of some types of wallago being fished to become pets on site-were these leerii?
