I like your new 180 gal. How did you attach the , I assume, java moss to the wood? I have used cotton sewing thread to attach java fern before. Is this what you did? I need to do something like this to my Mannys tank to give it a finished look. Can't put anything in the gravel, he and the pike now about 10" will destroy it.

Ron, I used thred but I dont know how well that works, we'll see. My manzanita is really tough dont know if it will attach. I know hiro is having problems with his attaching to manzanita.

hi Ron. I know this question is for Ed... but I thought I'd let you in on what I use.
Cotton thread. It will rot in a couple weeks and disappear.
And yes it's true, I haven't been able to get my weeping moss to attach to manzanita, however it did attach to some other wood in my tank.

I use cotton thread as well. Finding 100% pure cotton thread isn't always easy. All sorts of blends, but make sure it is 100% cotton if you want it to rot away.

FWIW - Amano AKA ADA markets "moss cotton" which is basically green cotton thread.

If you want a walk through of attaching moss to manzanita, have a look over here.

Thanks for the replys guys. I used some 100% cotton thread before. To tell you how old the thread was, it was some my mother had and I'll be 63 in july. It didn't rot as quick as I thought it would but it did disappear in a while.

Thanks for the link jhoetzl.

What do you guys think of java moss? My daughter brought home a big glob of it for me. If I remember right from many years ago when I had some, it ended up in the filters and everywhere I didn't want it.

Cotton threads work fine and takes awhile to rot through. If you're looking into something more permanent, there's always the good 'ole fishing line.

Java moss isn't the moss attractive moss, other than in submerged form.
