I live in Australia but I dont keep any Aussie fish.If I did there are only 2 that interest me.Saratoga and the Mangrove Jack(a fish that can live in salt water or fresh.)If Iwas to keep these I know I wouldn't pay an LFS for it when I can go catch them.I was wondering how many Mfk's do same over seas.
Here in Australia it cost less to purchase American species than it does for a Mangrove Jack(Lutjanus argentimaculatus)I would think Americans should be more expensive being an overseas species.
I posted a pic of a Mangrove Jack just to show thier size potential.

that guy is beautiful yea its hard to get the exotics because shipping cost an arm n a leg

There are many people in the US who's main interest in fish keeping is in North American Native Fish, i would assume that you Aussie's would have the same, get your self a dip net and head to the closest creek or lake and see what you can catch.

Awesome picture; would love to visit Australia. My sister have a lot of Hawaiian friends who said they always have a good laugh about what people in the mainland will pay for their fish that they catch for free.

If you want a Mangrove Jack, then go out there and get one. Hope you have a big enough tank though.

To me keeping a fish that I can catch readily easy in my own backyard somewhat takes some of the appeal out of it.Whilst I might see the fish itself beautiful I would rather have species from overseas(Americans being my favourite)I know here in Australia when someone sees a Mangrove Jack or a Barramundi etc. they know what it is and that's that ,but when they walk in your house and see your overseas species they allways have to ask about each and every fish usually and seem to be more excited too.

Oh i don't know, i would be very impressed to see that mangrove jack swimming around your home; but hey, it's the fish that you want that's the most important. There's always good deals on the net, and check out the salt water fish from Hawaii if you have a chance. Some species are really cool and colorful. Personally, would love to get a small shark.
