I'm just connecting a new FX5 to my main display tank. My question is the intake strainer, the slats look rather large as anyone ever put a sponge or covered it with a sock to keep large particles and small fish from being suckinto the impeller........? Ramifications? insite? or just paranoia:nilly:

How large is your main display tank? Also, how small are your small fish? I have a few Danios that have survived my "mean" fish and have never had a problem with them getting sucked in. And I have 2 FX5s running.

A sock of sponge would restrict your intake and MIGHT overwork and burn out your impeller...

just a thought

your tripping to much ive had fry swimming a few inches under the intake and not get sucked up. And if there to stupid to not get sucked up there probably not grow to maturity

Thanks for the replies, the tank is a 6' 125 AG.. it's hooked up and running fine, the main reason I had asked is that a while back a feeder guppy colony established itself in this tank..( right now they are before bed time snacks for my Uaru's)..anyway I was worried that if I sucked too many in it would foul the filter prematurely...having small guppies shoaling amongst 7"-10" Uaru's and some Red hooks was an effect I also got used to looking at...

Thank you all MFK is a nice resource to have when I wig out.......
