i was debating on whether or not to do a geo tank. it would be a 90 gallon, so not TOO much room. i believe geos are community fish (with the same species) right? or, could you mix one or two of different geo species with other species? i think i asked that right. also, what are some of the smaller species and what are some tank mates in the 90? thanks!

Not a pro, but most of the geophagus sp. tend to be pretty peacful. I really like the Geophagus sp. "Tapajos red head". The max out around 5in, have reall good color and you could keep quite a few in a 90.

I think similar sized sp. could be mixed but it all depends on the types you are mixing.

I have had the Tapajos before and they were really peacful and kepth them with tetras and stuff. Right now I have a geophagus brasiliensis and he is a jerk. Killed the female, and beats up my black belt.

So IMO I would go with the Tapajos. You could do tetras and plecos and rams and stuff with them. Also Rapps has some wild ones right now for a decent price. $25 for 2inchers I believe.

what other c/sa cichlids would do well with the tapajos? i want something natural, yet i want other fish in the tank with some size. something pretty, but not overly agressive as the geos really aren't.

Discus if you like them or wan't to pay the price for some. There not big but maybe some of the smaller pike cichlid sp. but there would go the tetras if you wanted to add some. I will look into it for you.

Also try searching on here to get ideas.

I have 3 G. surinamensis and (I know not geos anymore) jurupari. They all seem pretty preaceful with others, as long as the fish aren't small enough to fit in their mouth. Definate put them on sand though. I just switched my tank over, and will never go back. It's sweet to watch them filter through it for food. b
