question for lsn?

i seen the most out of the ordinary thing today in reguards to my lima... it had some kind of film completely over its whole body but he/she swam it off like nothing.... do they shed???? or do i need to quarantine..... thanks for any advise....

Normal slime coat shedding. No need to quarantine.

Shovelnose Catfish will shed its body mucus during times of stress

they shed when stressed, and mine will also shed after a really large meal. I have one that sheds nearly every other day, and the other maybe once per month. Very strange. Try not to handle right after they shed if you can help it. It's their protective mucous coating.

ya its mucus
its the nastiest thing in my opinion
i had a 10 incher
and he slimed my whole tank up
they eat most of it though
