Question for Oscar keepers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine lived with feeders for about 3 months lol. As for tank damage, mine picks up sand and spits it all over the place. His favourite way to annoy me was to swim into driftwood and rocks and smash them into the glass, leaving behind scratches and splashing water everywhere!!

I had a Oscar kill a smaller Oscar that cost about $5 that's about it. My Oscars haven't really gone on rampages and overall haven't been that bad. I've heard of them breaking hoods but never a full on tank

My friend when he kept fish had an Oscar that ate a lobster he thought would be able to defend itself, I think $20, then he decided to get a ray $70. He had a 240 tank it didn't break but if the Oscar wanted to redecorate it happened.lol

That's normal Oscar behavior lol. And if remember correctly they eat crayfish in the wild so a lobster is defiantly gonna get munched

Not much damage with mine. Only some guppies I was forced to feed because he wouldnt eat anything else.

I had to stop placing glass heaters in tanks (I now put almost all heaters in sumps), I've had oscars, and other large cichlids smash the heaters which then fried an entire tank of fish.

I've had an Oscar in every one of my tanks for the past 15 years and have never lost a fish due to an over agressive Oscar. I think they get a bad rap, sure they dig up plants, move rocks around and break heaters but it's well worth it in terms of having the best wet pet! Oscars are awesome puppies
