I've always wondered how you guys clean your piranha tanks. When you have to stick your whole hand/arm in the tank for whatever reason do you wear a chain mail glove or something similar?

Might sound stupid but I'd really like to know.

Mine are still nervous of me and when I put my hand in the tank they still flee....best rule of thumb feed first then put your hand in the tank...and if your p's are super aggressive then use a tank divider and do one half at a time.

Mine freak out when i shut all the filters off and hide but if one is hanging out in a spot i am trying to clean i just shove him out of the way with the net.

most of the piranha keepers just put their hands inside the tank without second thoughts.
they seem to know when its feeding time and when its tank maintenance time.
usually they go and stay at the opposite end of the tank while the owner puts his hand in.

Yeah, i'm with everyone else here. I just clean the tank the same as I would with any other fish. They stay on the other side of the tank and don't bother me. I use the net to chase them out if they're in a spot I need. Most bite stories i've read about are from people intentionally cornering their P or attempting to transport them.

The Python does the cleaning.................all I do is move it. I don't have any issues putting my hands in my Piranha tanks tho............can get a lil' spooky if the big Red Belly gets jumpy while my hands are in there tho. I have great respect for what damage an inccidental bite can do.

I use a MagFloat for the glass, its just a 2 sided magnet with brushes on one side and it clings to eachside of the glass to clean algae off the walls. and to vaccum, just feed the piranhas before and they stay clear away from the vaccum. first times always scarier then the rest to stick your hand in

I just put my arm in my tanks to do the cleaning. but am pretty nervous when cleaning my 12" diamond rhom's tank, never know when Ares will decide my fingers look like the smelts I feed him.
