Question for professional acrylic tank builders

I was told by a guy at the plastic shop that the best way to achieve the strongest acrylic join is to apply the solvent and then basically smash the 2 edges together which is how it is done by the professional tank makers, basically not using capillary methods. does anyone know if this is true?

I've found that acrylic guys can be very secretive about their techniques. Take what you hear with a grain of salt. The method used in the article above works like a charm, though it may induce high blood pressure when working with long seams.
 
that's what i had thought before getting the above info from the acrylic guy. how large an aquarium have you built?
 
Most difficult seams I've done we on a tall (3 feet) 250 with 3/4" acrylic. It has been in service 3 years without issues.
