Bird-safe cage building materials?
Is there anything in particular I should stay away from?
I'm planning on building a large flight enclosure for my new pair of Indian Ringnecks, The dimensions will probably be about 4' long, 5' high, and 2' deep. The basic frame will be wood, but I will be putting metal trim all along the inside of the frame to keep them from chewing it all up.
So long as there are no spots that they can get to to chew would it be ok to stain the wood on the outside?

Humm, got question:confused: I would stay away from aromatic woods like pine and cedar. Also make shure anything you put in the cage (food and water containers, toys, etc) are parrot proof:D

Yep, and stainless steel is essential for the metal. Lead or zinc toxicities are very common in birds.

I think it's ok to stain the wood on the outside, as long as it's in an area where they absolutely can't reach it.

Ringnecks are awesome! Got any pics? :-)
