im going to be going from a large 2br apartment to a 1br soon. i want to build a stand to hold my 125g and 75g. should i put the 125g or the 75g on top? i have a FX5 and XP3 for the 125g. im thinking building the stand 75" long so that i can put the 125g on top, the 75g on the bottom and the two filters under the stand. what would you guys recommend?

Sounds like a great plan to me. Only reason I have seen for putting a small tank on top of a big one is when people do fishrooms where they stack a narrow tank on top of a wide tank so they can get into bottom(wide) tank with less clearance between the two. ie you have a 12 inch wide tank on top of an 18 inch wide tank with only a few inches between then to access the bottom tank you have 6 inches with nothing above. Your tanks are the same width i persume. Plus your cans need to be below you tank so to keep using them you either have to have the 125 on top or have the bottom tank of your 2 tank stack quite a bit off the ground then have the cans on the ground.

i think it would look cooler to have the 125 on top with a whole cut out of the bottom so just the front of the 75 is seen with a door above it to clean/waterchange. saw a similar setup somewhere with a 90 gallon and a 30 gallon on the bottom and it looked nice.

You can put them either way, it would be your preference. I would put the 125 on top if it was me.
