Question for those building larger tanks/500G+

When you go that big, wouldn't it be easier to just build the tank directly on the floor then bother with a stand?.

Maybe. But it isn't that difficult to build a decent stand for a tank, especially if you get one custom made, you can just leave someone qualified to do all the hard work for you .

The main things to take into consideration are;

a. Is my floor strong enough to support the tank? Thick concrete is a must for tanks 200gallons+.
b. Is the floor completely even and flat? An uneven floor will cause the tank to crack after a while, since the weight at the bottom of the tank will not be dispersed evenly.

If the tank is really tall though (like 4-5ft+) then that wouldn't be a problem, check out jacks tank, its 7ft tall/deep;

I'd forgotten about THAT tank! My fiancee and I have just read the article and laughed at most of it - great story! Especially the bit about rehoming fish to HIS tank from a public aquaria!

Now I just need to see who owns the deeds to the cellar room in our tenement block.....
