I'm not worried about the amount of water that will be needed but what about the chlorine in the water? How are you guys planning on neutralizing the chlorine? I'm planning on building one but was worried about this. Help?

I don't own a large tank but my assumption which I beleive is correct is that those that own large tanks declorinate their water much like the rest of us. A $60 four liter bottle of prime treats 40,000 gallons of water which is really cheap in comparison to other cost of a large tank ie energy, food, water and the cost to build the tank. I think that there also is some sort of chemical that you can buy that comes in crystal form that can declorinate water much cheaper than prime though I don't beleive it breaks down cloramine.

I use a powdered form of prime that I add to my tank water as I am filling it with new water. It has always worked fine for me and is relatively cheap. It is supposed to not only break down the chloramine but also convert ammonia to nitrates (if you can believe the bottle). I have never measured any levels of ammonia or nitrates in my water and my rays are doing well. Prime is good stuff.

use pond water conditioner. The same stuff as the products made for aquaria just more concentrated and a lot cheaper. If your local water supply is like mine and only contains chlorine but no chloramine simply use a water hose with one of those spray nozzles. this will get rid of chlorine. I have been doing this for many years without any problems
