I was wondering what kind of device is needed to scan the chip in the tagged aro.

Does the fish need to be taken out of water? Is the equipment available? I have not been able to find anything on this subject matter

Has anyone ever done it?

Cheers

I have no clue where you buy it, but most stores that sell asian aros will have it. Take the fish out and run the scanner over the fish and it will beep once you run over the chip. The number will show up on the small screen. And thats about it.

You can purchase chip scanners from most CITIES registered farms. Not sure how expensive it is, but from my experiences you would need to be pretty close to get a reading. Id say 2" max range on the scanners ive encountered.

you can get scanners on ebay.... i have one somewhere we used to scan aussie lungfish

was able to scan with the fish in a plexi tank

Thanks, John. Could you take a pix of the scanner and provide the model/type? So that i can get one that is proven to work. If the cost is not so great, i think it is a pretty cool device to have around and show people =P

Not LFS over here =S i am pretty sure green aros over here do not have chips ( i have one, and it does not have it). the fancier morphs come with chips and piece of paper ... though i have never seen a scanner in my life

Hmmm, will look into it, though i have not seen these on their webstores... will try contacting one of them

All the ones here come with certs. They scan it right in front of your eyes and find the matching cert. It looks like a grey brick, with small screen on it and a red button.
