ok i have been posting in both the brackish forum and the freshwater invertebrates forum and i have got the same info the tag at petsmart said.i need help!!! i have red claw crabs. nice set up one third on land two thirds in water. 15 gallon tank. i have a waterfall filter in it to provide filtration and the needed water movement. the people at the store didnt tell me that should have cycled the tank and this was before i found this website and learned all this stuff about tank cycling and i never thought about it. i thought they breathed air. at the store they just had them in a pool with slanted rock and a water pump. no filter. anywho ammonia spike. been doing constant water changes and stuff but can i use stuff like prime or aqeuon ammonia neutralizer or top fin bacteria supplement with them. and also can i overdose any of those things because its only got like a gallon and a half of water and i dont have measurement except the cap and it has marking for 10 gallon at a time. i dont wanna kill them. i have to do like 85 percent changes in their water to lower the ammonia enough for it to be ok not even save. still like .25 after the changes. and im using test tube master kit not strips so its the accurate stuff. if you have any suggestions of this tank or the set up for them. do i even have the right filter? they are red claw crabs or Sesarma Bidens. thanks guys

For prime it works out to be just under 2 drops per gallon. Other then that all I can add is keep up with the WC's and go see if you can get some used filter media from a LFS or a friend.

i have established filter media its just the first tank cartrige got changed and it jump started the new tank and neither have neem in long enough to use on another tank. and now i have another new tank and i dont have any extra media for it so i got some api stress plus zyme bio filter booster. and prime and a crap load of other stuff. this hobby is expensive. and im compulsive haha. i have spent 450 on two ten gallons a 5 gallon and a twenty gallon but thats EVERYTHING i mean i have more stuff than a friend with two 55 gals. but im getting bigger tanks im just working my way up. i wanna learn first before i throw a 200 gal in my front room. haha

It's always good to be prepaired:D.
A bigger tank allows more room for errors though. More volume means less flucuations with things like ammonia and nitrates. More water means more delution and less fish loss.
Not preaching just mentioning it:D.

oh i know.now thanks to this great site. i used to think opposite. i started out with a 5 gallon haha now its my baby tank so they dont get eaten. . you see. i have alot of free time on my hands. recent wreck/ injury. so ive been home constantly and ive always wanted to get into this i just never had time for the setup. now i got plenty of time and here in a couple months im going to have plenty of money as well if ya know what i mean ;)

so im thinking that wall over there looks plain  i can see the bathtub size tank now!!! screw that lets go 100 or bigger!!!:naughty::woot:

Lol. Now thats the spirit!!!
Now I wish I did this when I bought my tank...
Look for a width of at least 24". That way your choices of tank dwellers aren't dwindled:D.
