Good Day Bichir keepers, Do you experience bichir eating massivore pellets then they just chew the pellets after that they spit it out, making the pellets become powder like. is this a normal behavior of a bichir? If yes, what are the cause why they do this sometimes? This is my 2nd time encountering this situation. 1st is when I got my 1st PBB newly acquired in tank, the next day after I got my PBB she already ate alot of massivore pellets but she just chew it then spit it out then eat again. She eat some portion of the pellets then spit the remaining part. Then the 2nd time is just this morning(I tried feeding my bichir early morning because I always feed bichir during afternoon or night time to avoid strong lights, because I notice that they dont want strong lights) my endli(white) and PBB do the same habit again eating and spit out some portion of the pellets, but they keep on eating.. Bichirs are Endli(white), WC congicus, and WC Chad PBB in a 4x18x20 tank size of each individual are ranging from 12-14 inches. Staple diet is only massivore pellets. Feeding only twice a week(1 moderate and 1 heavy feeding).

I post this thread because as much as possible I want to avoid the same situation again because most of the time I dont stay at my house. I stay at dorm for school purpose.. I only go to my house during weekends (Saturday for heavy feeding and Sunday for 40% WC- Water Change done every week), so the other feeding schedule is Wednesday which is done only by our house maid. She just feed and leave the tank. I just give him the right feeding amount in my 3 bichirs(each of my individual bichir average 9-10 massivore pellets in one feeding) but since im not the one that will feed my tank during weekdays i just make it 7 pellets/ bichir to avoid water problems. Any advice?

Another Question:
Does my Bichir have a good apetite considering that they can eat 9-10 massivore pellets every meal? or just normal or not good? Actually they can eat every othery day but I prefer every 2 days to avoid water problems. IF they eat every other day( they are averaging from 7 pellets/ individual bichir(congicus and PBB) but my endli(white) can eat 10 or more pellets regardless of feeding schedule every other day or every 2 days.

I think that you need to vary your poly's diet a little bit more. I am not very experienced with the pellets i do feed them but not often. since they do not have HUGE teeth they nibble until it is swallowing porportion

Massivore Pellets is specialized for bottom dweller fish like bichirs, so I think even I dont feed him variety of diet it should do fine. and that pellets become soft when put in water.

I have 3 bichirs and they eat the massivore pellets also. I also feed krill and blood worms (and maybe occasionally some Dorritos). One of my bichirs is eyeless and he has to really seek out his food and adjust it in his mouth to fit right. He makes a huge mess while eating. I think it is normal. My bichirs also range 12 to 14 inches and eat every other day but not nearly as much food. But, who am I to talk. They love Dorritos!

lmfao why the Hell do you feed yoru fish doritos.... I've heard of feeding fish table scaps but Doritos? I think thats Pushing it...

Doritos?! O_O the Pho?!

lol, that makes me laugh as much as that story once of the guy who threw a whole roastertisry chicken in his tank lmfao
