I have two species of Mesonauta (in different aquariums). The newer ones i have were sold as m. egregius (received april 6 2024 so only 5 months). They have stayed relatively small (so far at around 3 inches) and two pairs of the 6 i have - have formed and breed once a month or so. They aren't exactly like angles in that when not breeding they stay all together with little aggression. These are in a 180 4x4 (ft) cube with some b. cupido.
-
The 2nd group i have consist of 7 mesnonauta mirficus (july 9 2022 so 2 years and 2 months); these have never attempted to breed - or i have never seen them attempt to breed - though two are distinctly smaller so likely females - these have also gotten quite large 5 to 7 inches for the two largest ones. These also split up quite a bit most of the time - they are in a 600 10x4 (units ft).
---
So my question is why are the m. egregius frequently breeding but the m. mirficus showing no interest in breeding.

(also i'm fidning the m. egregius less moody and more passive than the mirficus - though in all honestly the exact species is a bit unknown - both groups were wild caught and are distinctly different with regards to their stress patterns though don't really match what i can find on line for species identifiication).
