I really hope this isnt a stupid question so please dont bash me if it is but,

Can Green terror fry be both white saums and gold saums? or does white saum parents have white saum fry and gold saum parents have gold saum fry? If thats the case what would happen with a white saum ; gold saum breeding pair?

So pretty much im asking where does babies come from? HAHA!!!

Yes they can be mixed, i had a batch of fry from GTs that contained more Silver Saums and Gold Saums also.

They are the same fish, just variants.

You also get those dull ones that have hardly any colour at all.

Thanx for clearing up my confusion. Whenever im in a lfs I look to see if I can see the difference but they are usually to small and I cant make out if its white or just a dull orange.

I just wanted to make sure i wasnt wasting my time if I see a definite gold saum. now I know to look at every fish seperately.

I already have a gold saum, now looking for a white/silver saum. Looks to be a tough find for me.

yeah i doubt you will find a white saum in a lfs unless you have a very good one, and some gold saums have a whitish edge when they are small, both my male and female (from different stores) had white edging when they were little and i was actually kind of upset because i was wanting gold saums but as they grew it turned orange/red, so i think its also hard to tell for sure when they are little unless you get them from a reputable source

Thats the exact problem im having. They all usually look like white saums but then presto chanjo ORANGE!! lol. I guess ill have to buy a few fries and hope for the best. Thanx

lol yeah your best bet would be to order them from a reputable source already labeled as white saums instead of just GTs and then you could be sure of what your little terrors are going to grow into

I do also, however I already have 1. I would love a White saum to complete the saum collection. lol

I'm curious - so the progenies of silver x gold look like....what?

1. all gold or all silver, and they segregate again in the next generation
2. part gold and part silver on each individual fish
3. light gold on all individuals

They do co-exist in the same areas, and I've seen a picture of a wild collected fish with part of its edge gold and part of it silver, so I've always assumed it's #2. Would love to know if this is the case.

yeah im not sure it would definitely be interesting to hear from someone who has done a little breeding project like this to see how this trait is passed down and what its penetrance is, be it incomplete/complete dominance or something else like variable expressivity...
