Question on hoods

I'm thinking about setting up a 20 gallon high tank for some cichlids. I was wondering how you guys have your hood set up? I plan on using aquaclear 30.

Should I buy the glass to cover the tank and then put a strip light over it? Or should I get a hood that has the light bulb guards and have it exposed to water? Are there any advantages or disadvantages for each? Thanks

Irregardless of what type "hood" you use...You need a glass top to keep moisture away from the light and to help limit evap. I usually run glass tops and a dual light strip. If it needs to be pretty a wood canopy is a snap to build especially for such a small tank. Good luck with it.
