My Malawi Eye Biter has been constantly spawning in my community tank... one time I was cleaning the tank and she spit out some of her babies... I was able to catch a few of them and moved them to a 20 gallon tank... only one survived, the rest were eaten by the other fishes in the 20 gallon...

the one baby who survived has body patterns similar to a Venustus (I have 2 confirmed males in the 200 gallon tank that also houses the Eye Biter)... is it possible for my Eye Biter (female) to crossbreed with my Venustus (male)?... anyone had a similar experience in the past and know how they look like adult size?

i will try to post some pictures of the baby fish tonight... thank you for reading and would appreciate any comments... :)

Yes.

Hard to say what it the hybrid will look like, though.

If I had to guess I'd say probably similiar to the dimidiochromis compressiceps/crytocara moorii hybrid on this page

(5th photo from the top) but with venustus-like patterns or possibly the OB dimidichromis compressiceps (4th photo from the bottom).

Thanks Kay-Bee... I took a picture of the baby last night, notice the Venustus patterns. Yet I got the baby out of the Eye Biter when she was mouth brooding...

Sorry about the lousy pic but the fish is too small and my camera was having a hard time focusing when I zoom in...

I excited about seeing a pic of this thing fully grown

updates?

ca-ute.....i wish mine would do that, just for my own enjoyment really, that will be a very pretty fish if it's a boy...but i'm luck i guess in a tank filled with lots of fish, my compressiceps bred with each other so i have 50++ little eyebiters growing up!
