I just set up a 45 gal. tank. some of the pebbles in the tank had been used in a smallerr tank that had ich and i treated the ich for 3 days then i went on vacation. when i got home all of the fish were dead(i think because the water got too warm for the fish and not enough 02). buti dont know if the tank i have set up has ich and i dont want to put in fish yetb/c of the risk of ich. iwanted to know if i could treat for ich just to be sure and how?

i would give it a week, add salt and raise the temp to 86* just to be on the safe side. better to wait a little longer then to infect new fish
At 86 F the life cycle is usually around 3-5 days but sometimes there are ones that last longer, a week should be enough but 2 weeks is safer. also a good gravel vaccing and partial water change should help.
