i have a pair of jack dempseys that had eggs but were unsuccesful. they all dissappeared in about 2 days. i am almost positive they are male and female due to the coloration and fins. they are in a 55 gallon by themselves but havent bred again in a few months. i do water changes at least once a week and keep the temp at about 77 to 78. does anyone have any suggestions on why they havent bred again or is there anything i can do to maybe trigger them to breed again.

If you have a divider, Divide them for around a week. Raise the temperature, remove the divider, and do a partial water change. Also, add some dithers to distract them for a bit. Maybe some giant danios? If you add something fast like the danios, remove either the dithers or the fry after the successful spawn.

I had a pair of O's that did the same thing. After about the seventh spawn, they had a successful hatch. If the divider doesn't work, just give them some time. Your fish will continue to attempt to spawn as long as the conditions in the tank remain ideal. That is their natural instinct anyway. The reason why the eggs are disappearing is because the fish can actually tell when the spawn is unsuccessful and will subsequently eat the eggs, which provide a source of natural nourishment for them.

sometimes the male doesnt get over to fertilize..... theres no reason they wont get it right and sometimes wont it just happens..... if you are absolutly sure you ha ve a pair dont change anything just keep perfect water and feed them a healthy diet and they will get it right

I agree - raise the temps. It is possible you have two females as well. Did you see the breeding tubes? The idea of separating them and feeding them well (conditioning) is good. You want to create idea conditions - this helps trigger them to spawn (lots of food, warm/clean water).
