was wondering what the deal with the lighting for the common wolf fish, found like two post mention anything about lighting and saying they like low light. so trying to figure out what the deal is. just trying to give my wolf the best possible home i can.i wish i could of researched more before buying, but i got him for might as well say ten dollars. i knew that was a steal so took the guy up on it.

My Wolf is in a 4' tank with a 2 1/2' ft ballast and never hides - when the 4' light was still on the tank he spent all his lit time in a cave. He also won't eat til' the lights are off. The bulb in the ballast is 15w 5,500k, when I switched most of the live plants I had died.

Provide a lump of wood or pipe to call home, and add some floating plants to create a bit of cover and subdued light. Mala's are more nocturnal so tend not to like the bright lights. There are plenty of examples that aren't fussed about the light though.

right now he has a log with a couple holes in the center, but i don't know anything about the plants and everything. couldn't i just buy a different bulb? cause right now he doesn't mind my bedroom light on(ceiling light/fan.)cause when i have had that light on he has sat on the top of the "log".i just hope mine ends up being like my friends it would be half ass active when he walked into room and it sat on the log when he came into the room.

Yea, he Is talking about mine. I have noticed if u have a log that high in the water they tend to sit up high and sleep like mine did over looking his kindom. My blub is bright but had a hue but when the light was off we swam all over. Light on. On his throne . I am still learning. But have see when there are low lighting and 2 or 3 malas in the tank it helps with activety due to being more then one fish in the tank, causing the wolf to have to look for food . This is 100not backed up there some cases where they just go and have a battle royal until only 1 is left.

they can adjust to light if needed. mine was always out when i was home but hid when i was at work. but i did have a few floating plants

now just after trying to figure out how to make him more active since he is rather useless right now.....after feeding him 1 1/2 things of salad shrimp(the smallest ones i could find at meijers with out breeding for like a deep frier or w.e) he has become a little more active but also noticed he is sniffing at the rocks and is barely picking them up like he is gonna try and eat them.
