Question on Lighting

What is the best lighting for a tank, I mean, my tank(55gl) the fish look good when they swim to the back, but when they get close to the front they look dark. What hoods, and bulbs would be best? Even for 20 longs.

For PL aqua-glo can look nice, PC's I perfer color max 50/50 ( colormax/6700K), and for T5 I do the same one colormax and one 6700K bulb. I've tried almost every light out there and this combo is my fav, it brings out iridescent colors, and red's and blues very nicely, and is bright but not to bright.

coral life t-5 set up does a reall nice job i swap the color max for another 6700k on mine though looks better to me

I should note I keep Flowerhorns, so just wanted to say that so I can get the proper light, that will show off their coloring. So will these be ok for them?

go with the satalite lighting i have one on my 55 rite now....
one bad thing about it is that while u run the main light u need to also run a small fan attached to it which is loud......
i have mine on a timer.....
alos they come with two small lights for night time to simulate the moon effect in the water!!!!!it rocks minus the noise part.......
but if ur going to have a canopy on top u shudnt have a problem with the nocie level =)

what type, size, and wattage you recommend for the satellite? I have a 55 gallon, and plan on a 30 long soon.
