What is the cheapest way to have a mating pair established? I always read that you buy a pack of juveniles and let them pair as they grow but i dont see many lfs have a group deal or if they will let you return fish at full price.

I don't know about washington but in colorado the reputable stores are more than willing to make you a deal on 6 or more, and if you ask they are almost always willing to allow you to return the extras after a pair has formed (provided they have the tank space at that time). The biggest hindrance is that they do not want to refund money. However they are usually more than willing to grant you a refund in the form of store credit. However one store here in town will only grant you "fish credit" I think it has to do with his accounting and the way he has to show the restocking.
The cheapest and quickest way to have a pair established is to buy a male and female convict and add water lol. But I'm assuming convicts are not the route you are planning to go?
