just a quick question, would this pump work for a sump pump?

http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/i...7l/Ne-67n/Ntk-All_EN/R-I7156917?Ntt=pool+pump

i have a 180 gallon aqaurium that is drilled, with corner overflow. the previous owner slotted the over flow so that it could feed constant to a ehiem 2217. i already picked up a fx5 and planned on using these two together (eheim hooked to overflow).

upon doing some research i found out it is a relatively bad idea to run canister off of overflow, so i want to setup up a simple sump.

was thinking just a 30 gallon or so rubbermaid, with a stack o drawers and some pot scrubbies. so far no local fish stores will order me anything or carry any submersible pumps. big als will get me one but they require half down to order it and 2 weeks later it comes in, which is about an hour away for me.

thanks in advance

Can you order a submersible pump on Amazon?
That looks like a filter the link

I do not see a reason it should not work, just be sure the intake does not go dry, are you planning on drilling a hole in sump and attaching the hose intake to a bulkhead fitting? Be sure to have stops somehow, shut offs so you can clean pump.

yeah i could do the online thing, i gots no paypal or credit card and i think i pushed the wife as far as she will go money wise lol.

yeah i realize its a filter pump, i dont think it would harm anything, as long as the filter stays clean as to not slow down flow too much. or just remove the filter completely.

as for pump sizing, since its just extra filtration, maybe like a magdrive 3 or 5? little cheaper i geuss too than the home hardware one.

flows not as big of an issue, its just to use the overflow since its there essentially, i just picked up the fx5 so not looking to dump a tonne more into the sump setup
