Just rebuilt a leaking 125 tank and just filled it with water. How long should I keep this water in there before draining and how long before I can safely house fish in the tank?
Do any chemicals leech out of the silicone into the water?
I used the GE type 1 silicone on the tank and let it cure for just under 24 hrs (21hrs)before filling. Could I drain it tomorrow, clean it real good then refill for the fish to go in? Also I assume I could just put one of my already cycled cannister filters on there and be good to go, correct? Got some fishies on hold that I need to get delivered asap.

TIA,

JP

Yes you can empty and clean out the tank.

Silicone cures in air.

Should have left it out for 3 days or so...

Refill the tank with treated water (or aged if you have chlorine). Put your cycled canister filter on it and wait for the tank to cycle (both have to cycle). I suggest a fishless cycling by using one of the baceria-in-a-bottle products at the lfs and ammonia. This takes anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks to properly do. Check your chemistry daily.

Anything less and your jeopardizing your fishes health.

Patience = healthy fish.

Anything else we can help you with just type,

Good Luck,

Dr Joe
