When I first got this guy I was told it was an aligator gar baby, but, from the same place it was questioned whether or not it was. Anyone comfirm or dispute or tell which type this is at this time?

Thanks

I'm no expert in gars, but the mouth is way too long to be an alligator gar. Not too sure which gar it is, but I'm pretty certain it is not an alligator.

It could be a gator because the snouts do shorten up but not sure either. I had a spotted gar at like 4" which was 1" of mouth and now it has shortened some.

Hey Pete. I'm still going with Longnose (L. osseus). My wee alligator gars were very different and not that much bigger. Besides, five bucks is way to cheap for real 'gators.

It is not an Atractosteus gar so that rules out Alligator.

Given it's size and natural spawning seasons I'd say a Flordia, though spotted is possible. (This is if this is a new fish bought recently)

Juvinile lepisosteus are always tricky as they are all very similiar at that size.
Do you have more pics from different angles? Especially one of it's back.
