question on why ppl chose to breed cons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lots of folks breed them as feeders, i'm sure someone is selling them to the LFS's, because they are all well stocked.. lol.

If i felt the need to feed live fish to my dudes i would raise convicts too.. far cheaper than buying the big variety of frozen food that i buy for them now. Doesn't mean i'm going to change.. just food for thought.

Basically if you choose to keep cons you will be breeding them. I did breed them as feeders, and still do only at a smaller scale.

It takes about 3-4months to get to the 3/4-1" size depending on feding and water changes.

I'm breeding them for fun, before I move onto other projects. They're a good step up from Livebearers, plus they're easy enough to breed and still provide you with interesting Cichlid fry-rearing Drama. Clean feeders for other fish, and personally there's now 3 LFS around here who are offering to take them off my hands, atleast for cheap, but it's better than nothing. 25 cents each fry, and I got 200.. so $50 isn't bad for just breeding an easy fish. I think most people use them as a learning process, I know I am. I moved form Livebearers, to Convicts, and soon I hope to breed Angels, Paradise Fish, Discus, and hopefully GBR.

I personally tried for just fun, also as feeders. They are very easy to breed. Unfortanetly, my 10g isn't going to cut it...

You have to do squat to breed cons. I think why most people breed cons is because everybody loves the cichlid rearing and because of thier cool attiude.

Who doesnt like a fish who is 2" and can scare a 12" oscar?
