Hello everyone,

So I have a quick question. I have hooked up a Fluval FX5 on a 150 gallon, I just put in a power head at the bottom. Will this equipment be enough to Aerate the water enough? I only ask this because I have some small minow guys in it as well as some silver dollars and they are all attached to the top of the tank as if they are gasping for air...

Your help would be appreciated greatly..

Thanks

the fx5 alone would provide enough current in the water to de-gas and provide enough air exhange IMO unless you have the temp set extremely high. the warmer the water, the less oxygen it will be able to hold.

what is the tanks temp?
how long has the tank been running?
did you treat the water when it was added?

Water has been treated. the tank temp is around 79 and the tank has been running for a week now

that could be your problem right there. if you have a brand new tank, with brand new media, and several fish added at once, your going to get an ammonia spike. that would explain your fish gasping for air, since the ammonia is burning their gills most likely.
