Is it normal for them to have them say in the morning and then lose them as the day goes on? It seems mine were really dark this morning, but not at all last night. Also they are lighting up a bit every few minutes.

Is it just because its early and I flashed the light on that he is stressed? Or is it something that definitely means they are stressed near sickness?

Looks healthy, jumping out of the water to get flakes and freeze dried bloodworms, about 3.5 inches.

aros tend to get dark as they are stressed
before you switch on th tank light do you switch on the room lights and give some time before you go for the tank lights

I turned the room light on beforehand for about 30 minutes.

His color went back in 30 minutes or so, but I was just worried he wasn't doing good.

Is it at all similar to cichlids when they are young? My sa/ca cichlids always changed colors in the morning, and some still do.

sometimes turning the room light on in a dark room will startle them and they go ballastic:(:(

Oh wow,I had no idea. I will let the natural sunlight rise more through the window every morning to alleviate the instant sunrise with the room's light.

Thanks.

I want to make sure I am not overfeeding him though, about how much is good? He scarfs down pellets and flakes and bloodworms. He is maybe 3.5 inches.

that will help alot

i would feed 3 or 4 times a day at that size...not too much....maybe what he can eat in a few minutes. no uneaten food lying around

also the tank must be completely covered.... they jump out otherwise
