In my own little world
My daughter just surprised me with an early B-day present of the coolest little Adonis L155. Right now the fish is 2" in length and I know he'll get bigger, but I've read everything from 18" to 30".

I know they are pretty territorial once they start attaining some size so he's going to end up with an Aro or 2 for tank mates (150G). But I was just wondering how big he'll get?

Also, does anyone think there would be a problem housing the Adonis with a Birchir? My LFS just got in some albino Senegals (3 inchers) that I'm interested in, but if need be I can put that one into my 55.

I don't think its recommended to keep bichirs with plecos.

Though, I had an ornate bichir in with a few common plecos several years ago before I knew better. Didn't have a problem when they were small, but that changed. The bichir grew from 3" to almost 18" in a couple years (plecos were about 6"+ i'd guess, maybe bigger). I noticed one week seemingly out of nowhere, one of the plecos was sucking on the bichir's slime coat. Couldn't find a way to make it stop (didn't think it was enough of a problem to remove the pleco, again, ignorance). I saw this go on, off and on, for a week or two. It ended up getting some sort of disease/illness and died from it a few days later (almost looked like a white-ish film growing on most of it).

and I'm not familiar with L-155s...

Saw a tiny delhizi bichir at the LFS today that I oh so wanted to buy, but I already have a few fancy plecos so decided not to.

congrats on the new pickup!
ive been looking high and low for a small adonis.
im not sure he will grow to 30" but with proper care it is very likely he will at least reach the 24" mark

Not sure on size but I resisted buying one a couple months ago due to it getting huge! But in regards to the bichir question I think you can have the two together. It is on the acceptable list in one of the stickies for fish to keep with bichirs. But that being said make sure it does it doesnt become a slime coat eater like the story above. If it does become one, it'll alway be a slime coat eater and you shouldnt house it with bichirs or similar fish.

Thank you all for your input and comments.

I guess I'll hold off on the Senegal until the Adonis gets big enough not to be hassled.

Also I thought I'd post a pic of my new baby, so here he is...

Sorry the Pic isn't the greatest, but the little booger wouldn't come around front once I grabbed the camera.

lol....that will take awhile to become a giant terror. Bt no bichirs. Aro shold bt fine, bt make sure the plec not even remotely bite sized.

I have bichirs with plecos and have not experienced any problems. Also have an adonis at about 11 inches including tail extensions with other plecos and the only issue is who gets first dibs on the zucchini.

Yeah I know, right now he's in a grow-off tank with the Aros they too are Juvies (4.5"), currently the only other occupants are a couple of 1" HiFin Paleatus Corys.

On the Birchir the one I was looking at is 3" but was unsure of their growth rate in comparison to the Adonis. but like I said they are readily available here so I can wait until the others attain some size.

heres my adonis... he has slowed in growth now..after 4 years growing to about a foot .. i had him since he was about 4 inches,.lives great with synodontis and arowana...yours looks great..enjoy that baby..love mine..your baby will lose all the white spots as he grows until he is jet black.. mine is almost there..

Did a little reseach at Planet Catfish and found a picture of an A. Hystrix.

According to them Hystrix gets to about 24" which is definitely supported by the photo, they also say that A. Adonis will hit one meter in length.

I guess mine will never see that size unless I follow though on my threat to my wife that I'm going to turn the swimming pool into an aquarium

R/D that sure is a nice looking Specimen you have there...I can't wait until mine gets bigger.

Also I was checking out River Wonders and saw a Pleco that definitely looks like a new species of Acanthicus...I would get one but with my luck the pattern would disappear and then I'd be stuck with 2 big black lyre tail plecos.
