Hi all.

I just wanted to know if cichla poo a lot? aka, can I place them in a deep tank with out having to reach my short stubby arms down every 3 days to clean up ****?

Thanks.

I have never had that problem with any of the species of pbass I have kept.

All I have to do is the regular weekly gravel vac.

Lol, dude as you know what goes in must come out. Just get one of those really big gravel vacs. Stand on a chair and away you go! Think of it like this, big fish big poo. :)

hrmm... I have a lot of poo!!! But the poo is usually where the pbass hangout. If you have any kind of decor in the back of the tank they'll probably hang around near it and poo there. Just my observation.

Keeping cichla in bare bottom tanks also makes a big difference in my experience...

It is much easier to clean.

yeh they poo alot, especially once they get larger.. ive since started only feeding every 2 - 3 days to cut the waste..

The bottom will be sparesly decorated, but still haveing sand. If there is too much, a good ol pooper scooper will help  I like the idea of sand since it holds all the poo on top and makes it easier to clean in my opinion.

Sand looks nice but I think after a while when you see all the debris/detritus laying on top of it, it kinda makes your tank look well shibby. Personally my tanks are bare bottom, I have a few plecos and they alone make enough crap to clean up I threw out my sand/gravel. A trick that may work for you is to place a powerhead on one end of the tank. If you get the circulation right you can centralize an area where most of the debris will gather. I don't know how well this method works on tank with substrate but since most things lay on top of the sand it seems like it might work for ya.

I have that going in my 30gal. I have a 2000lph pump in there at an angle making all the poo collect at the one place. I was going to do that for the 190 too.
