Just went to check on my rhom today and saw my 4" BDR is missing teeth both upper and lower right jaw. I know when rhom replace teeth they do one side at a time, both upper and lower. anyone know how soon will new teeth grow out? do they still feed during that time?

how frequent do rhom replace teeth? do they do that as they grow, like snakes with their skins or they do that just to keep their teeth sharp?

I have no idea but I'd love to add to the question:
what happens to the displaced teeth? are they ingested or dispersed among the gravel?

From OPEFE Dr. Stanley Weitzman: (http://www.angelfire.com/biz/piranha038/piraparts.html)

"When a piranha loses a single tooth, it is replaced quickly as a whole set. This piranha is ready to lose its set of teeth. The new teeth are already formed in the gum area and do not drop down until the replacement is needed. Microscopic slides made at OPEFE do show the "ready teeth" on the standby position."

Thanks man. I've seen that page before but just couldn't remember it when I was typing, lol result of a busy work week and lack of sleep, I need this weekend off :)

I was hoping its a sign of growth. you know when the jaw gets bigger it needs bigger teeth to match it. it's like after you get your 22"s you also need a big brake kit to match the upgrade.:naughty:

Naw man completely understandable. I had the week from hell myself. Just glad it's over now. It's like 70 degrees and sunny in DC this weekend. I finally got all caught up on work, time to spend a little leisure time. How's it in jersey?

Jersey is nice too, over 60 at some point. I was out in T-shirt only, haven't done that for a while but I can get use to it. Was thinking about go fishing but the lake I went still had ice all over it yesterday so I guess I'll just wait a bit more.
so I ended up did some water change and cleaned my FX5 and saw my 4" BDR attacking an oscar, man that little fellow was brave as hell. should've taped it.
