question that i cant find an answer to

AGA uses 5/16" on 48" tanks, and 1/4"on 36".

AGA's 48" tanks are 18" tall. If your only going 12" tall, I think you'll be ok. I would make sure that the bottom is fully (i.e. not just the edges) supported with thick ply covered with stryo to provide even pressure. Also use cross bracing in both directions on the top. I'm no engineer, so this is just my .02.

:iagree: Especially on the bracing accross the center of the tank. If your still concerned make a frame around the top and bottom.

You do know tempered glass is very hard to cut right.

Do you have a 42x47 piece for the bottom? or are you using something else.

Was this commercial shelving?

I an sooo nosey :screwy:

I think that you should get a thicker piece of tempered glass just to be sure and also normal tanks are rectangles and have less pressure on the middle of the glass and yours is almost a square so you have to think about the pressure the water will put on the center of the bottom glass. 1/4" might be fine for the sides but get a thicker piece for the bottom just in case.
