I agree with professor rob... I only keep fish i like, and if its rare its just an added bonus...

I keep fish that appeal to me either visually or because of their personality or because it's a challenge to keep them. Visually I like Blood Parrots(definitely not rare) and Mpimbwe Frontosa(kind of rare), I find the more contrast the colors of the fish the more visually appealing it is to me. Same goes for my tank, that's why I like a black background with shale rock work and green fake plants. I keep an Armatus because he appeals to me in the difficulty of their long time husbandry. Most can keep them successfully for awhile, but they don't seem to live as long in captivity as they could so I want to see if I found the knack for keeping these bad boys. Lastly is personality which my Curupira Wolf and Trachycorystes Cats have tons of. The Wolf's tank sits opposite my desk and he's perpetually staring at me and following me around. Always givin' me the are you gonna feed me look. The Trachycorystes aren't much to look at unless it's feeding time then it becomes a real show. They start pushing each other and grunting all over the place and they're one of the few fish I hand feed and pet. They love their belly's bein scratched. I've tried to sell some of these guys recently, but I'm glad no one took them as it was a impulsive decision on my part I know now I would have regretted. Sorry for being so long winded, but you did ask. Lol!

good answers...sometimes i find myself just wanting to buy a fish because its rare and more so not even because I like it....for example, i at first wanted a lei. arowana because it was hard to find but when I really look at it, to me it pales in comparison to a jardini but i'm glad i've come to my senses and now would rather just get fish I enjoy..

Yes, to both questions. But most importantly towards question #2. I think a person should keep fish that he/she truly does like. Not because someone else likes it. IME, when things like that happen, the hobby turns into something else. Enjoy what your keep, 'rare or common'... all that matters!

+1 on what prof rob said
