question with wet/dry

im running a wet/dry filter right now and yes it works good. the water is always clear and quality is great. but i always have small pieces of food in the tank because the water goes into a overflow. i was reading a diy where some guy was saying why would we need to only filter the top 1 inch of ur water? and i agree. for an overflow arent we just filtering the top layer of the water? is there anyway a wet/dry can do more mechanical filtration?
im getting mny 180 soon and i was reading diy post. and i was wondering if i do the diy pvc overflows and i have 2 is it possible if i can put one input on the surface of the water and one input in the middle of my water? so that means having 2 areas for filtration in my sump with 1 pump running all the water back into the tank. is this possible? cuz ive never seen it done.?

If you have your overflow halfway down in your tank you better have a really big sump to contain all the drain back.

good water circulation prevents an overflow from just filtering the top 1"

also where is your return located?, get it as deep as you can

I dont think the DIY PVC will work with multiple intakes...the water level will go to the lowest one. I would just add a power head

Power head or undergravel or near bottom jet system , in which either your return is running this or a power head like above That is your best option.. Figuring out 2 intakes at different levels is harder than it seems

Show us how you plan to set this intake up If it is syphon you have a chance but the quality is minimal.... With a drain you are lookin at like stated a huge sump or a nice flood when the power goes out...
