Alright I am planning to join 2 pvc tube that is 1" into a 1" pvc...my question is that will the flowrate be the same or should I join the 2 1" pvc into a 2" pvc instead?

I am doing this for the intake of the sump.

Ether I am very dense at the moment or that is a very confusing way of saying what your saying.. is this for the return or for the drain of the tank? What size is the tank? what size is your pump?

1+1=2.........

1"+1" into a 1" will give you a flow of 1"

1"+1" into a 2" will give you a flow of 2"

im not that good at quantum physics but i think i figured this one out

sorry but this is incorrect.

joining a 1" with a 1" into a 1" will, restrict the flow to the equivalent of 1". (like you said)
joining a 1" with a 1" into a 2" will not restrict flow at all.

this is due to the fact that a 2" pipe
has four times the flow capacity of a 1",
or twice the capacity of the pair of 1".

You can safely join the 1" into the 2" with no problems.

you just said the same thing i did...... cept you made it hard to understand....

oh I thought you said 1" + 1" = 2"
I said 1" + 1" + 1" + 1" = 2" that's why I was trying to correct you.

diameter increases the area of a circle 1:4
thus influencing throughput of the pipe to approx the same ratio.
bottom line is a 1.5" pipe would probably be sufficent
to drain off a pair of 1" but would cut it a little close for my comfort.
the 2" has twice the capacity that is needed.

sry for the confusion.

hehe yes.. both correct.. yer just more correct than me...

llllllll I'd say you're good to go then. :)
Halving the qty of pipes into ones twice the diameter is always safe.
