Hi people, well just a question, ive 2 rbp and 1 is abit bigger than the other. Well they been fighting now and again and the bigger 1 when alot darker than the smaller 1 lastnight and they where fighting alot, but today the bigger 1 has lightin up abit but still is alot darker than the other what would this be? Ive readed abit into other peoples post and am thinking could it be that the darker 1 is having babys or it could be just its stressed out abit more, well any info on this id very much appricate it

Thanks xxbreyxx

It's fairly normal for Piranha to nip at each other. So long as no chunks are taken out I consider this normal activity. They also constantly change color. My thought is they do with moods and certainly with varied water chemistry.

It doesn't sound as either is having babies. What size are they?

it sounds like one is stressing the other out. 2 is a bad number its always better to have multiples so one doesnt get singled out and picked on by the bigger one. how big is your tank? what are your water parameters, ammonia, nitrates,ph ect....???

Thanks for the replys. Well they both are colour again and have calmed down alot, no bits took of either 1, they just nip at each other abit but dont take bits off. They in a 4ft tank and its about 100g tank if am correct. The ph is 6.0, is that good? and with the ammonia and nitrates am not sure wot they are or how to check them, sorry if i sound stuiped but still new to these sorta.

Thanks for the help again

ok ive readed up abit more on these parameters, ammonia, nitrates and seems ill need to get a few more test kits to check these, so thanks alot on the advise here and ill try get out soon and buy these to test

Thanks again

if ammonia and nitrates are good. get 2 or 3 more. your ph is really low, it could be the ammonia causing that acidity in your water unless your tap is just soft.if ammonia is good and nitrates are good no worries. id just add a couple more rbp so that the bigger one has more fish to pick on..

It has always been my belief that a PH of 7.5 is about ideal for Red Piranha. I don't know what your tap/well water comes in at but assuming you do regular water changes, a better idea would be to adapt the Piranha to whatever your water supply is in regards to PH. You'll be tilting at windmills if your taps PH is 8.0 and you try to maintain 6.0.

Definitely invest in a master test kit.

Thanks alot for the invo guys, ill read up abit on how to raise my PH level, and ill invest in a master test kit, could any of yous advise me on where to get a good kit at a good price?

Thanks again
