how long can I keep a black aro in a 180g (start at around 3-4")? I don't plan on power feed since i won't be able to upgrade anytime soon. or is jardini will be a better choice, again no plan power feeding, maybe once a day the most and as it get bigger may only every other day or two.

You will be ok for a couple years, they don't grow as fast as silvers. But there are plenty of people that have kept them permanently in a 180g with no problems as long as it is not overstocked.

what would be overstocking? I plan on probably start with 2 or 3 since don't want to risk just getting one and it dies since they are so small. and as they get bigger I can sell one or two if the space becomes an issue.
maybe I'll add one or two dats in the mix..

is this in response to jardini's, blacks, or both?

I wouldn't keep a jar and a black together as they get bigger jardinis become quite aggressive. The blacks will be ok. Maybe throw a bottom dweller in there too a poly or 2 or a slow growing cat like a tigrinus or jurense. You will be ok for a couple years just dont overstock it

To blacks based on the OP's original question i guess.

just picked up a baby black today (Brazilian) around 3", just pass the yolk sac stage so going to keep it in my 10g for couple month until it's bigger.
any idea where usually black aros are collected?
