did a quick search but couldnt find much on people talking about powerheads..

Currently im using a Petco brand i believe 30 or 40 gal tank rated powerhead in my 110 that i would like to take out and start to use it for my own variation of an aqua/hydroponic system.

Basically its going to run about 8" max above the water level into a 44x6x4 (inch) tray on a probably half hour timer 2-3 times a day.
I do not trust the current powerhead as doesnt always start up on its own and as such, brings up the question on which one to use to replace.
I like the Koralia powerheads with the magnet mount but it looks as though they are an open design and as such i wont be able to use a tube out of one (unless im looking at them wrong?).

So i guess the question comes down to what brand/style is the most reliable? I dont need a Tsunami of water blasting my plants so i will probably still stick with a lower GPH rating.

When i get this all pieced together ill be using pothos cuttings as test subjects before slowing switching over to nice smelling herbs and maybe some smaller veg or fruit plants i can top to keep low. Eventual plan is to get enough root system going to skip the cycling process all together and simply use maybe a couple ac 110s or something for mech. Oh and to enjoy my fish and have them feed me for once.

Will be guinea pigging my 110 first i think before moving full scale into the 220.
