For the past week I've had a nasty wasp infestation in my house. The stupid exterminator sprayed and obviously closed up the nest. Now they are all in my house and coming out all my vents. I've tapped them all off and we have literally hundreds every couple of days coming out in my basement. Lone behold that's where my fish tank is. A new exterminator is coming and I'm afraid it's time to use some serious chemicals in the house and vents. If I keep mg tank covered really well do you think I will have an issue??

Yes you will have a issue unless you can hermetically seal it.

Lots of thick clear barrier plastic and duct tape.
The kind of plastic used between the sand and a poured floor.

I would do it in like 5 layers one inch over the top and sides. Tape.
2 inches ( one inch further down ) and tape it. Until I had 5 layers sealed.
Also I would remove anything I could wire/ hose wise. Then any wires/hoses left I would reseal again after everything was capped.

When removing I would treat it as the biohazard it is wipe down the 1st sheet of plastic with a damp water cloth. Then remove one layer at a time folding it in on it's self and disposing into a bag while I had strong out take ventilation.

That's just me and I'm pretty paranoid about chemicals around my pets and family.

PS: ask them for the HAZMAT and MSDS sheets on what they are using so you know better what to expect and how to clean up the mess they are going to leave.

I suspect air pumps taking air from the room could push the tainted air through the water column.

Thanks guys, no air pumps so I am good there. We had to move out of the house until something is done. Poor fish had to stay :(. I'll be asking about the hazmat plastic. We will see what they reccomend as well.

I feel for you one of my teen daughters got a job at a thrift store and brought home bed bugs. We had to have the house heat treated (heat remuneration?) They raise your home temp to I believe it was 180 degrees F surface temp. had to drain 10 tanks and put y fish in tubs I my backyard. with all filtration and heaters on an extension cord. At some point in the night they blew a breaker. Thankfully we only lost the two parrots 2 casualties out of the 100+ fish in my stock was bearable.

I wish you luck shelbybmc.

Thanks guys, This sucks. The exterminator removed the next on Tuesday. Took out "a couple thousand" yellow jackets. Now during that week time frame of having the nest closed off they have taken over the walls and everything. She now is fogging or bombing the house tomorrow. Im nervous as hell. Last minute all I have is some large plastic bags and blankets. I run 3 AC110s thats it. Its sealed off good as it is. If I completely cover it air tight with the bags how long will my fish have with all the C02 building up in there? The only aeration I have is the water splashing back in the tank. If anyone has had any more experience with this, please let me know. I literally have tonight to figure something out :(.

Edit - The exterminator said she is only fogging in the ceiling cavity where the nest came out of which is upstairs. She wasn't too concerned about the chemicals making it downstairs and into the tank. She just said cover up the top so nothing falls in to be safe.
